The Engagement Office serves an institutional and strategic function in positioning Mandela University as a transformative and responsive institution that is locally engaged, regionally alive, nationally active, and globally aware under the Engagement and Transformation Portfolio and implementation of Mandela University V2030. Key to the institutional positioning is the intersection of Mandela University’s key strategic focus areas in achieving inclusive student access for success.
Engagement entities are intended to develop and strengthen existing engagement and scholarly activities through the development of mutually beneficial partnerships with external communities that are consistent with the University’s strategic direction and priorities.
The Engagement Excellence Awards are to recognise excellence in engagement activities and are considered as an important mechanism to achieve the institution’s engagement vision, strategic goals and objectives and to give recognition and reward for excellence in the performance of this core function.
The Engagement Advancement Funds are made available on an annual basis for engagement projects and initiatives that are of strategic value to Nelson Mandela University and that are currently not directly funded via teaching and learning and research funding sources.
The Engagement Office continues to challenge and expand its expression of engagement as praxis throughout its various sections and projects to delineate the possibilities for what an engaged university might look like and do.
