Nelson Mandela University strategically focuses on strengthening engagement as a core mission, in addition to learning, teaching, and research at higher education institutions. The university's V2030 proposes that the intersection of its three strategic focus areas, namely humanising innovative teaching and learning, impactful research, innovation and internationalisation, and transformative engagement, can significantly contribute to ensuring student access for success. The Engagement Office (EO) is tasked with developing an online platform mapping engagement activity at Nelson Mandela University. The mapping also demonstrates how the university, and its stakeholders contribute to achieving the V2030 objectives and University’s contribution to South Africa’s NDP, the Africa 2063 Agenda, and the SDGs. The mapping exercise further allows the university to:
-
show the distribution of hybrid engagement activities within the university,
-
inform internal and external stakeholders' extent of engagement by the university,
-
Foster internal and external transdisciplinary and inter-transdisciplinary collaborations as others see what is being done and prevent unnecessary duplications.
-
deepen institutional understandings of the engagement typology and support the intellectual, scholarly engagement, and programmatic work related to engagement.
Given the dynamic nature of engagement, it is envisaged that the platform will be regularly updated. The activities are grouped by areas of engagement.
